My husband Bert didn't want to celebrate his birthday this year.
The Big Seven O.
So we escaped to London for a week.
However, our friends decided that something special was in order and they organized a lunch for the two of us in famous restaurant MORO.
It was the highlight of the week.
The food was exceptionally good.
Starters: a sea bass salad with spawn for him
and for me a crab and broad bean salad with lemon thyme and chilli.

Then for Bert lamb chops:
'Charcoal grilled lamb with dressed spinach and slow cooked cauliflower with saffron, pine nuts and raisins'.
Maybe the best he ever had, he said, so succulent.

For me skate wings:
'Wood roasted skate with beetroot pilav, pistachios and herb borani'.
The fish was very fresh and the sauce delicious.

A view of the open kitchen with the big red stove.

To finish our lunch we shared a slice of chocolate apricot tart with our coffees.
Of course the tart was also top level.
We thank our friends for this fantastic birthday present.
Bert was very happy.
